Roberta Mitchell Cameron, AICP

Roberta Cameron has assisted in the preparation of community-wide master plans, targeted planning strategies in over 35 communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Ms. Cameron has examined complex issues facing communities in the region and innovative alternatives for achieving community goals, especially in the areas of land use, housing, economic development, and natural resources. She is skilled with use of GIS for data analysis and illustrating geographic conditions. With Larry Koff & Associates, recent projects have included impact assessments for proposed residential and commercial development projects and preparing zoning bylaw changes in several communities.

Project Experience

Larry Koff & Associates, Brookline, MA, 1997-present

Contributed to Master Plans, EO418 Community Development Plans, Housing Strategies, Downtown Revitalization, Economic Development, and other targeted studies for numerous communities throughout Massachusetts. Prepares reconnaissance, mapping, analysis of socio-economic data, housing market, and buildout estimates. Assesses policy and market concerns relating to zoning, land use, housing, economic development, natural resources, and other planning issues.

City of Hyannis, Barnstable MA 2005

Prepared detailed, parcel-based buildout analysis to project the potential impacts from a proposed mixed use zoning change in downtown Hyannis.

Taintor Associates, Ashland, MA, 2001-2004

Reviewed Comprehensive Plans, Zoning, and other planning documents to develop sustainable local/regional economic development strategy for South County, Rhode Island. Primarily concerned with promoting and enabling economic growth to serve local needs while protecting community character in rural and historic village areas, Ms. Cameron helped identify needs and opportunities for each town. Also prepared economic development and housing inventory and needs analyses for the City of Chelsea CDP.

Todreas Hanley, Cambridge, MA, 1998-present

Assisted with retail market analysis for downtown revitalization in Medford Square and in Manchester, NH. Other projects included market analyses for Stata Center, MIT, Union Square Somerville, and downtown Lowell.

Planners Collaborative Inc., Boston, MA, 1995-present

Contributed to master plans for Millbury, Canton and Lynnfield. Prepared community profile and helped to develop capital budget planning strategy for the town of Marblehead. Completed background research and consumer survey for a market study of Onset Village in Wareham, and developed GIS maps depicting land use, building conditions, and traffic flow in Onset Village and other Massachusetts communities.

John Brown Associates Inc., Cambridge, MA, 1996-2001

Contributed to master plans for the towns of Randolph, Hingham, Norton, Duxbury, Holliston, Dracut, and Dunstable. Also completed land use and buildout analysis in Taunton and Winchester, and assisted in preparing an economic development study for the town of Holliston.

As a volunteer, Ms. Cameron has recently explored the issues of urban forestry, developing a vision and strategy to improve the planting and care of street trees in her own community of Medford. Past volunteer and independent consulting efforts involved needs assessments which led to successful grant applications for housing and economic development funding for the communities of Wareham and Allston/Brighton.
